Can anyone give me their thoughts on what features the sequencer in a 303 clone should have added / omitted? I know I'm probably really, really pissing people off posting these requests all the time but I would really appreciate suggestions. As you might remember, I started this project bloody months ago and it's about time I got started... Thanks all - Trev

Sorry, I'm an asshole, I don't even know what a 303 is, I'm just a dumb redneck who knows nothing about dental hygene.

Oh, and I have a really poor grasp of the English language hence my incorrect spelling of wasting...sorry.

Yes, hopefully this box will turn into a reality.

Bear in mind that this is really a *hobby* of mine. Therefore I don't get too much time to work on it, because my main job (electronic engineer) takes up most of my time (and mental energy...).
Therefore production quantities would probably be pretty damn low, unless of course everyone buys one, and I can quit my main job (yeah right, there's a fucking dream..)

Please keep your ideas coming 'cos I'm taking notice. Your comments so far will have a great influence on the design. Some features I won't be able to implement, some I will.

I'll try to write a proposed list of specs sometime if you're interested.
But the basics are:

TB303 sized case, steel, with alu top, possibly different colour finishes available. TB303 style sequencer, with similar button layout, but improved / easier to use. EEPROM memory (no backup batteries). 7-seg displays.

Basically a knob for everything - original knobs, plus everything that you might find on the DevilFish (distortion, control over acc decay, FM etc), ring mod (maybe)...

MIDI in / out and sync in/out sockets, in fact every socket you would want (filter in... and so on), MIDI control over the analogue voice, sequencer sends midi, cv, gate, accent slide out via sockets. I thought of doing a 'pattern sysex dump' which lets you store patterns on a computer sequencer via MIDI sysex messages. And then later retrieve them back onto the machine.

Knobs won't send MIDI, and knobs won't be controllable via MIDI. This is to (a) keep cost down and (b) erm, keep cost down.

It will look dead smart. Nice finish, nice screen printing... etc.

+ loads of other stuff I can't think of at the moment.

Right, I'm going to bed 'cos I've been working on this bloody thing all evening.

Keep 'em ideas coming ;-)

Trev

Oh, and imprortantly the analogue section will keep the original TB303 topology.

So it will sound the same...

Trev has been involved in the tbs
3030 I think... also developing the
midi interface board for this diy kit.
I'm not positive though, but I did see
his name and email at various sites.

So I'm sure he can back it up.
Personally, I wouldn't get a 303
clone, I almost got the tbs 3030 kit,
for the reason of building my own
synth. There are too many 303
clones out there, I would like to see
more unique synths, or at least
some interesting re-designs of the
303 engine, like a devilfish for
example.

I hope Trev finishes his project and I
am definetly interested in it, there is
no reason to be rude to people on
this board.

Yeah, I wrote the firmware for the midiDAC, which is a little MIDI/CV board kit that you get with the TB3030 from oakley sound systems.
