are you trying to gate external audio, or the internal sounds? if you are in a multi set up you can route audio from one out into the filter in. keep that signal continuose, and intermitantly send a midi signal on the channel of the audio-input to get a gating effect. Set the out of the audio-in part to a differant output and from the source to prevent a feedback loop and set both parts to their own midi channel. For gating external signals you won't get any sound if you don't send a midi signal so gating is easy. to get audio to the filter turn the mix level down on all oscilators and ring mod osc sections and turn the special section(audio in) all the way up.

its not you, it is impossible to do gating via midi volume control on the snv. If I am correct at one point Phill said that this was due to some kind of smoothing algorithm designed to eliminate zipper noise. Hopefully at some point novation will find some way to allow gating.

Here's an idea...

Why not use the Arpeggiators to do the gating instead ?

It's not that hard. You use one part as as an audio source. Set that to outs 3&4, and route it back into the audio input plug manualy with a cable. Then use the 1&2 output for that signal to be gated using midi note on/off just like you were sending external audio through the filter. You have to trigger it for the amp to work, and thus it gates the signal when no midi note is recieved and opens the gate when a midi note is recieaved.

Be sure to be in Performance mode. Gating in Program mode is _not_ dezipped while gating in Performance mode is.
