Dear Phill,
I have gone way into my wallet to obtain the facilities to ugrdade the OS
in my Supernova. I know I have done the
process right because it reads" OS3.1beta" when I boot up but the PDF states that there were going to be new sounds and an elimination of the zippering effect on the filter knobs. Both of these things were left out when I upgraded my OS. I have all of the original sounds and when I tweek the Frequency knob, the sound zippers just as bad as it always has. Not even my quasimidi does that! Also, all the sounds that I had stored in bank D are still there and a few sound the same but a couple others don't even make a sound. Luckily I backed up the D bank in my sequencer before the OS load. What vould the lack of results be due to? To obtain the new sounds, do I need to load the other midi file that comes in the download zip file? What do you suggest? I owuld really appreciate your help!!!!!!

Respectfully,
Mike
San Jose, California

The 3.1beta2 OS does have the Freq knob dezippered.

The new sounds have to be installed. I do not think you have installed them.

There were some changes made to the synth engine and this may have caused the sounds not to work any more. I would have to examine the sound to be sure.

I suggest reading bthe PDF that comes with the 3.1beta2 OS and following the instructions.

Phill, I greatly appreciate your timely response. This forum definitely
makes me feel like I got my money's worth when I bought the SuperNova. Now, I am unclear on some of what you said in your message. Is there a correlation between installing the new sounds and receiving the elimination of the zippering effect on the freqknob. Is it possible that the elimination of the frq knob zippering didn't get installed with the OS? I can clearly see that I have OS 3.1 beta but I also know for a fact that the zippering is in FULL effect. Here is an example of how much this forum helps; I went to look at the topics from the last 365 days and not only found tips on making those growling Drum'n'Ass basslines, I also
found explicit instructions (more inticate than the PDF) on loading the new sound set. But hey, You are the best
asset to this forum. And if there is anything that I can do to rid myself
of the menace that is the evil zipper effect, please let me know. What I
understand least is how one person can master a box of nearly limitless facets
and capabilities. You're the bomb, and keep rockin the electronic music(do you
make house, trance, techno, ambient, garage, porno beats, commercials?)

Respectfully and Thankfully,
Mike

Distilla really shows the zipper effect. For the way that I rock some of the sounds( i.e. altered distilla) I need to pump the hell out of the freq knob in time with the beat. I get massive zipper effects on that sound, but all of the altered Jungle sines that I use for Drum 'n' Bass react the same way as well. I also hopped around
to some string type sounds and found the same results. Screaming raver does
it alot also.

The freq knob is de zippered. In NORMAL use you will not notice any zipper whatsoever. Yes you can hear some zipper on the Jungle sines...this is because the distortion is in use...This has the effect of exaggerating any minute changes because the gain is so high any minute changes become very large. this is particulary true with the jungle sines as the fundamental waveform is a sine and sweeping the freq knob only alters the level of the sound which causes changes in drive to the distortion effect. This produces a kind of grungy thrump...(if ya know what I mean!) between 37 & 55...

This would happen on any digital VA with distortion emplyed in this way and I cannot at this stage see any way around it.

Thank you very much Phill. I have come to find that I get very clean use of the freq knob on a number of other sounds. I can now see why there would still be that effect when and if distortion is implemented. I just loaded the new sound set that accompanies the new OS and I am astounded. I have been falling in love with this machine more and more every
day since my purchase but as of last night, I was blow away. The new
performances have shown me of the shear power of this box and I cant believe I only paid $1400. I'm now content with
functionality of this box. Please keep checking out this chat room. You've been a great help.

Respectfully,
Mike
