Hi! Does anyone out there use windoze ME for audio? I have win 98 (1st, not SE) and my brother said he could get me a legit educational copy of ME. I actually just reloaded 98, but I would like to know your oppinions as I could redo it before I reload too many progs if you think I would be at an advantage running ME.

this win2000 based stuff is kinda making me want to go that direction eventually as well. especially as I have this idea in my head for a pc/mac networK (best-of-both-worlds!) but will need to run an NT/2000 based system to use the mac/pc filesharing progs i found.

any thoughts?

peace,
Vinny

I don't know to be honest. I also have
access to an educational license for
both Win2k and Windows ME, so maybe some
testing is in order. I was going to
move to ME, but I think if all my
hardware will support win2k and I have
access to good drivers that I should
probably opt for the stability and
better memory management that 2000 offers.

cakewalk doesnt work in win2k?

also I read somewhere that win ME starts backing up changes and things all the way up until your hd gets full, Ill see if I can dig up the article on disabling this "feature" and post back.
That cant be good for performance at all. win98 isnt THAT bad for audio stuff besides the crashes and corrupt hard disks and such

I heard (here i believe) that cakewalk pa9 doesn't work right under 2000 unless you do some wierd stuff, stuff that i didn't understand
I am actually using cakewalk professional 8 but i guess i am actually assuming that it win't work right under 200 since pa9 supposedly doesn't. I looked and my cakewalk documentation says it will work with NT, but 2000 i don't know about. I would be interetserd in finding out more about this.

According to the Cakewalk people, Pro
Audio 8 and 9 should run just fine under
windows 2000.

YMMV, I have never tried it.

K - Are the ME problems related to it
shipping with the dreaded versions of
DirectX?

there are many hardware related problems, modems, adsl modems, keyboards etc... don't ask me why, i dunno, but most dealers i talk to say forget that shit.. and as they do it all day long for money i take that census onboard. I had it on one box, and had hardware probs with a few items, so removed it.

Are ME and 2000 the same thing?

We're looking at buying a new PC and we're worried about ending up with 2000 because I read somewhere that the MIDI resolution is really bad.

Anyone else got any thoughts.
