Do I get better audio playback performance if I get 2 x hard drives and raid controller? Or can I use two hard drives without controller?

How do I format and part my secondary HD? - i resurrected it - (the z switch thang)

I had an idea for a script once. It's basically Jaws except when the guys in the boat are going after Jaws, they look around and there's an even bigger Jaws. The guys have to team up with Jaws to get Bigger Jaws.... I call it... Big Jaws!!!

so how come we can get 70 tracls out of a 7200 ide but protools needs two 10k rpm drives running simaltaneouly with a scsi accelerator to get 64 tracks of playback. Maybe because it's 96khz? could that be why? I run all my 24bit stuff at 48khz, and i get around 60 tracks before performance is questionable.

A 24-bit 96khz audio file will take up twice the amount of space and bandwidth as a 24-bit 48khz file. So if you can get 80 tracks a 44.1 you're expecting only 40 at 96khz.
