Im not new to electronic music, but I am new to the production of it. I'm interested in making drum & bass, rap beats for some of my friends, experimental types of electronic music, as well as intelligent dance. I just got a new computer and I have Orion Pro, and soon Im getting Sound Forge. I need suggestions of any kind cause like I said Im just starting out! -
Thanks
AARON

errr .......just take your time to learn your stuff, not really sure what else to say really. Oh yeah - don`t buy anything else, orions excellent for learning the basics of sequencing, synthesis, programming, arrangement etc so just work on that bugger for the time being.

and dont listen to anything steve says

basically trial and error, man. read everything you can get your hands on. maybe search through old threads here...

youre gonna learn the most by hands-on experience, not by someone tellin you how its done

oh, and dont listen to me, either

fuck 'em both.

no, but seriously ...

...

anyway, what they say. don't buy anything else! spend your money on beer and women. and when you've got orion & soundforge sorted and you're making cool music, you won't need to spend ANY money on beer.

porns cheaper than women. And you don`t have to talk to it afterwards, pretending you`re all sensitive and caring like. Just a tip from dirty steve.

and if you`re thinking of hanging around here, remember to call influx gay periodically, like this:

"thanks for the help influx, that really sorted me out .....you dirty fucking nonce"

course, you don`t have to use those exact words but you get the picture.

yeah, you're just going to have to persevere.... ask specific questions tho sure, but at the moment you dont seem to have anything specific to ask, general advice is so braod-based it's useless at this point.

best way to learn is to copy. So copy your favourite tracks style and that'll get you going.

Thanks for all of the input. I started making my first track last night, i have a basic drum pattern laid down with a bassline. Now I need to know what I have to do to create things like swells, and how do I get new VST effects?
thanks
-AARON

well first, sort out the linear arrangement for say 128 bars... just adding gaps at the end of the last bar before a block of the next section... listen to it thru and as the same beat plays over & over, imagine the start, then a sub-build or whatever, then whatever... anyways arrange some sort of basic linear layout first mebbe to work over (you can modify it later)

you want to setup your vsti, find out it's controller's for the parameters you want to adjust over time to create any 'swell' with the actual synth sound....

more 'swell can be added by layering over some building percussion, roll or other drums mebbe, pad's behind the whole thing can swell up using simple volume controller (midi cc7) swells etc... eventualy you'll get to reversed reverbs, pre-fading-in vocals etc & other tricks..

once the synth part is down, start messing with the controller you've assigned to the VSTi or if it does so, adjust the s/w Pot or Fader control on the synth & record the controller, move.

once that's done, you might want to edit the data, here's cubase is much clumsier than most other sequencers sadly, so that'll have to be investigated in the manual cos i cant write a tutorial here.

oh by the way, there is no set order to these tasks to make a linear track, but perhaps it's best to start with a structure as noted.. in the end the process is an organic one if you're familiar with your work, and things happen in no particular fixed order but do effect each other, so it tends to be a sortof evolving process of tweaking & re-adjusting other parts around each tweak, and moving forward like that...

Can you use DX plug-ins in Orion, or just VST?
