so I got this thing with my hoontech and I was wondering how crippled is it exactly in relation to the full version of logic?

I`ve been looking at sonar as an alternative to vst but the midi side of things didn`t sit very well with me at all and from what I`ve seen of logic, the midi stuff might be more to my liking only this is one bastard ugly program and in comparison to cuabse its not exactly straight forward. So, is this worth bothering with to get a feel of the prgram? Or am I better off just DLing a demo of the full version to see what the coup is?

ok, guess I should`ve played with it some more. No drum editor   But anyway, I like the matrix thing but I was wondering how d`you go about creating a midi part (in cuabe speak) on this thing so I can say, prgram 2 bars of drums? All I can do is record some stuff live to a midi track and then delete all the notes.

Bet that sounds real dumb eh? I like what I`ve seen a lot anyway, and the drum editor thingy with the velocity stalks and stuff looks nice. Just a shame I can`t get to play on that yet.

er... sorry to break into your monolog

to create a midi part simply use the pencil tool on the arrange area as you would any other sequencer.

ah, goddit now anyway.

I dont seem to be able to record any audio via spdif tho - I set the hoon to 44.1 and to recieve external midi clock, then set logic to ASIO DSP24 driver, uncheck 20/24 bit recording, set asio clock source to external spdif and then wavesound player to Audiodso directsound whatsit. I set the rcord path and then arm the track for recording, but I`m not getting anything through to the mixer? So I`m obviously just recording silence, but the hoon mixer is recieving the audio loud and clear.

So where am I buggering up this time? Anyone? Please?

strange, I can do it with the analogue ins no problem and with either on vst.

Nevermind, I have better things to do anyway, like looking at porn and err ...talking to myself on the internet.

are you sure that the spdif in/outs are enabled in logic at all? do you see them in the list when you select recording source in logic?

check the routing on the Hoontech applet (the drag and connect cables bit) - if the meters on the hoon applet mixer are showing a signal then the Hoon IS receiving audio ok, but it's not routing thru to your s/w so check the routing of the cables in the card applet.

well I gave up on it anyway, recording via the analogues was no problem and I had no difficulty getting vst5 to record with it so I dunnae know what was going on there.

I`ve only got the value hoon tho k - just the little card with the extra panel thing with spdif so I dont have the routing thingy, just the internal and external mixer wotsit.

Thanks anyway, I`m selling the 01v to buy logic silver and an mt4 cos the midi side on thing on logic is sweet as and steinberg are shafting people on their lowend midi interface cos it doesn`t even have their time stamping ability.

I didn`t want to start a new thread so I thought I`d drag this buuger up again - so I`ve got logic silver now and I still can`t record owt through the spdif in on the hoontech. To make sure I haven`t been doing something wrong I ran through the mini tutorial on that skinnahs site on setting up the dsp24 specifically with logic and yet still no joy.

On the audio mixer I`m only getting the option of selecting input 1 or 2 - no spdif at all and I can record through the analogue inputs no problem, as before. Cubase isn`t having any troubles recording through either the spdif or analogue ins so what the coup then? Something to do with that external links thing because I can never get that to boot at all? Just seems strange that cubase can manage it.....

have you added the s/pdif input into the drivers panel in the audio settings hardware in Logic?

I`ve set the clock to spdif input if thats what you mean?

It all seems a bit wankered tho to be honest, after posting last night I booted logic again and its gave me an asio error as it was loading so I just turned the bugger off. Now when I turned the pc on this morning I got told theres some checksum error and its reverting to default configuration ao its asking me fro the driver for that bloody ethernet card again on bootup   But no asio error on logic now....... Bugger only knows what I`ve done here.

in the logic audio setup (hardware) there is a list of found drivers, (you can also force Logic to 'search again') - so you have one panel with the list, you highlight and click 'add' to add them into logic the ones you want.

ok, I feel really stupid now cos I`m not even sure of what you`re talking about. So I go Audio>>>>Audio Hardware and Drivers and then I click the audio driver 2 tab to give me the asio bit, the only driver in the list there is ASIO ADSP24 - that or no driver. And then underneath I get to set the clock source but I dont see where I tell logic to search again?

no no - go to START/EMAGIC/LOGIC programme - on the windows start button - choose:

Logic Audio Device Setup

i tested this last night and it does NOT add the Hoontech s/pdif INPUT into the driver list by default, ONLY the s/pdif OUT - so I had to add it in manualy.

mebbe I'd better add some images here...

i see. it's missing that bit i'm talking about - um..... hmm... did you get the hoontech applet with this card for patching cables etc & setting hardware settings & does the s/pdif IN & Out show in your windows mixer & list of possible audio i/o's in multimedia settings ?

you mean the external links thing? I got it, but it doesn`t work   I tried a complete reinstall but still no joy, the internal and external mixer etc work fine but whenever I click external links I either get nothing, or within logic it says "error: external link and mixer not load" (in perfect English as you see). But as I said - I can record into cubase ok with the digi in so surely its already set up properly?

The spdif show up fine in the windows mixer and in the mulitmedia setting its all present and correct and I`ve got spdif in set as my preferred recording device.

Thanks for your help anyway, I think I`ve tormented you enough with this one so its mebbe about time I annoyed that Claus bloke over at the hoontech forums.

ok, if anyones interested heres the cou[ with logic silver c/o staudio:

"Hello,

the problem is that Logic Silver (unlike Logic Gold / Platinum or the supplied SoundTrack 24 version) does not support more than one stereo input channel. Sad but true, this version of Logic does not allow you to select another input channel (when using ASIO) because it does not support multi-channel recording.

The only way to record from S/PDIF would be to use the EASI MME adapter driver. This means that you need to activate (only) 'ADSP24 S/PDIF input' inside the EASI-MME adapter utility and then use EASI instead of ASIO inside Logic Silver 4.7. This means that you have to select the hardware preferences inside Logic manually in order to use the analog input again. If this option is not satisfying, the only alternative would be to use a different version of Logic Audio or another software.

External Links (as mentioned on Dancetech) is not needed because it only works / is needed with the DSP24 (not DSP24 Value) and also is not related to this problem.

Best regards,

Claus"

so its working with the easi drivers now, kudos to staudio for replying so quickly.

aha I see - well there ya go then..... in that image above choose the 'easi/mme adapter' then and tick the s/pdif in and deselect the other inputs. BUT, your aplet (asio dsp2496 applet) should load when in vst & logic and you are in audio-hardware dialog & click to open the 'control panel' if it does NOt then you have a bad install which can happen after upgrading to a new version... you gotta totaly strip out the applet therefore + all drivers from windows system and start again - You can see which drivers are being used and where they are by going into control-panel/system and selecting the card from the list - Then double click or right click & select proporties and 'drivers', and see what is used... make a list on a .txt file, remove the card delete the 'AUDIOTRACK DSP' from control-panel add/remove programmes - strip out the vxd etc files from windows... run a regclean & then re-install the card from scratch bypassing 'let windows search and add the drivers' on boot... do it manualy and force to the new drivers which you've prevoiously unzipped into a folder ready & waiting.

If the hoontech app is setup wrong and flawed, then when you go into it from it's home dir (not from within vst ort logic which it wont do), then if it's flawed, i find that the asio/mme etc & gigasampler radio checkbuttons become 'stuck' and cant be selected or deselected in the dsp2496's 'hardware settings' dialog page - after re-installing it all properly this should all work AND pop up from within logic or vst's audio setuop panels so you can do things like adjust the latency.

yeah, thanks but I`d already figured it all out once I was told asio is a no-no. About the applet thing tho - its only the external links that wont load and if everything that Claus bloke said was to be believed then its not supposed to load on the dsp24 value anyway so I guess I`m home and dry.

So why`s asio seen as preferential to easi/mme anyway? Lower latency or just more solid?
