I'm after an external USB sound card for a lap top, that can supply 48v phantom for a reference mic, as I need to run a spectrum analizer from my lappy, and it would be good to hear Cubase VST as well!

I don't know what the verdict is on them but both the m-audio duo and the edirol ua-5 have phantom power. I'm not sure if the duo is out yet though.

checkout RME too they do a laptop solution although it costs a bit more but offers alot of connectors... (Multiface + CardBus Interface: 1025 Euro
for the kit) - but you'd need an additional mic pre-amp as it uses 8x8 analog 1/4" i/o only (& s/pdif & adat & WClock & midi !!) everything on one irq, inc' midi i/o - normal pci buss transfer speeds apparently.
