Original Message 1/4 28-Feb-01 @ 01:04 AM - is this right??
Ive got a Terratec 88MT Sound card (please keep reading this is a general post!!!), when i have say 10 audio tracks i can have the latency down to 5ms, even with quite a few plugins/EQ,
but as soon as i add midi parts, around 6 or 7 plus i am getting lots of clickin`. Now is this the usual sign of my PC not coping (Athlon 750, 256 mb Ram etc) or is there either something wrong with the card/my setup, i mean in the modern age of Nuendo DAWs its seems strange that my PC cant cope with 16midi tracks when i can have 16 stereo audio tracks with EQ and plugins runnin with no clicks, bloody Atari STs used 2 cope with 16 midi tracks 4 christ sake!!!!!
Anyones opinion would be greatfully received!!!!

being able to cope with similar
situations. I've also heard that the VIA
chipset can cause problems with
midi-not for everyone though-. That
chipset is on your motherboard if
your running an AMD.
Do you have a decent midi interface?
Maybe your chaining too many
pieces of gear together or your
getting a midi feedback loop.
If your using some sounds from your
controller, then turn the "Local"
perameter off. Good luck!

The weird thing is that if i set the midi channels 2 a Virtual instrument the clicks go away and even more weird is that it still clicks (when i have the midi set to 88MT out) when there are NO midi leads attached !!!??? I have tried an SB Gold i had lying around and this does the same thing !!!?? I am considering buying something like a Midiman 2x2 USB to try.

if your running 14 channels of stuff
using 1 in/out/thru port, your pushing
a watermellon thru a flexy straw. Get
a dedicated interface w correct
ins/outs for all your gear. Even if it's
not the whole problem, you will have
far better midi timing.
