Building a new system and want to run Sonar XL in Windows 2000. Would I be better off with dual P3 1 gig chips or single P4 1.5 gig chip? Can anyone help with a recommendation? Thanks. M

Probably the single P4.
You will get the answer AMD from others at this site.

Yes, dual Athlons will be cheaper and faster than both those solutions..

Dual P-IIIs offer no upgrade path, as the P-4 needs a different mobo.. That'd be the kicker for me.

I posted a link to a bench mark web site that answered that exact question.Do a search. If you are on a dual cpu supporting os like win2000, and the app supports it, like Sonar, then two pIII's are faster than one p4. The athalons are supported up to 1.2ghrz in dual setups. So go with the dual 1.2 thunderbirds, but remember, a single P4 is now cheaper to buy than a dual athalon setup. You can buy a complete p4 system for $500, and dual mobo's are still $500 plus the cpu's and case, and periferals. So expect to spend at least $1200 on a dual setup.
