i think most users on this site are AMD based... well Anandtech lists your choices for intel ddr as:

ABIT BD7-RAID
AOpen AX4B Pro
Chaintech 9BJD0
DFI NB70-SC
ECS P4IBAD
FIC VC15
Gigabyte P4 Titan DDR (GA-8IRXP)
Intel D845BG
Luckystar P4A845D
MSI 845 Ultra
Soltek SL-85DR-C
Soyo P4I Fire Dragon

And they say the i845 boards are way more stable than SiS or VIA (at dec 2001)... but to be honest, due to everyone going for AMD chips i can't recall a single discussion at any music-tech site about Pentium 4 boards... everyone just seems to go P3 or up from there they all seem to go for Athlon, probably cos they are cheaper & wider spread...

Hi,

Just a word of warning about intel P4 DDR mobos.

I saw a review of the new P4 2.2GHz on the web somewehere maybe www.tomshardware.com can't rememember exactly. Anyway they overclocked it to 2.5 and then 3.0GHz and 'discovered' that systems using the DDR ram offered very little improvement with the increase in CPU clock. However the RDRAM systems did offer improvement. This means that their is very little potential for a worth while upgrade of the CPU if you buy a DDR ram mobo for your P4. i.e. the memory is holding back the entire system already! Maybe Intel were not quite so dumb to push the RDRAM for the P4 after all. Also RDRAM is the same price as DDR as well now!

Come April intel will introduce the 533MHz FSB P4's with 1066MHz RDRAM. Until they introduce their dual channel DDR chipset (which is planned for 3rd quarter) i'm afraid the i845 DDR motherboards really will be a false economy for someone who is likely to upgrade their system, as the next version of cubase logic etc demand

Cheers
Stvy

oh yes... ddr offers a very small probably insignificant speed increase over standard pc133 ram apparently... about 10% max increase I think, which in our game means not much as once you approach anywhere near that threshold where the 'extra' 10% kicks in, your box will already be overloading & glitching... you cant run a H/d system at the redline...
