I use cakewalk 7 and record real audio. When I start using real time effects like reverbs and delays that are included in cakewalk my computer starts to hiccup and can't handle it. I have a 150mmx with 48RAM . Is it my sound card that is too weak too handle this. It is an AWE64. Which sound card should I think about getting???

Its not your soundcard... has nothing at all to do with your soundcard. Its the speed of your computer. Realtime effects, ecspecially reverb, use ALOT of processor power. I have a 200mmx and cant use more than a few effects at a time without my computer getting sluggish. And I dont even touch realtime reverb. Try useing non realtime effects, like what you can do with CoolEdit or SOundforge.

hey Astroman.... do you find that Cake7 uses massive resources compared to vst ??.. I do... it has more stable midi tho, but jesus it guzzles some power somewhere somewhere down the line... same as you with a 200mmx 64mb s-dram.. again, without the reverb...

Sorry Kilo... but I've only used VST once... then away screaming after like 20 minutes. I'm just too used to the Cakewlk interface... VST seemed unintuitive and clunky. So I really cant compare the two. At any rate... yeah it seems it does chug more resources than you'd really think it needs... I think I got more realtime effects off cakewalk 6 and a 133mhz CPU. Other parts of 7 more than make for that though... like the new interface and stable timing.
