My friend laid a audio guitar trk down and saved it, next day he fools with the song, trying to fade in and out, he says he never saved none of it and discarded it. but when he opened it it was still there the changes tho he never saved them? How can this be it was a important trk?

.... well, you should save audio tracks with "export audiofile" before you do any changes........

Any editing of the audio file using Cubase's editors is DESTRUCTIVE and cannot be undone. ie. timestrech, normalise.
You should use an external editor when working with your audio files. At least they have multiple undo functions. Cubase only has 1 level of undo.
