is a good vocals box...it's got a vocoder, and decent analog
distortions... of course you'll have to go used... and it's
got lots of strange effects....
the new boss (vf1) should be good too, at around
$400 street probably (list $499) includes mic
modeling (?) a vocoder, and the COSM guitar
distortion stuff from the VG8, etc.
don't know much about anything else...
your guitar pedal should work fine for distortion.
just plug it in a try it. you'll need a mic preamp of course,
if you've got inserts on your mixer, plug your mic
into the mic input, and put the dirt box in the effects
loop....

sure its not the greatest but it almost have everything you need, it is geared towards vocalists,it has front panel mike input, plus it has a vocoder too... musicians friend is selling it for around 130$.

the VIRTULIZER and the MODULIZER
the first is a good reverb delay unit
the second is more of your flange phasing unit ,this one has some really different and whacky
both are 24bit
both can be midi'd up
you wont go wrong at that sort of money

on the se70 is better (there are 2 of them instead of
1...an 11 band and 21 band, i don't know what's on the vf1).
the vf1 has a few things the se-70 doesn't, mic modeling,
COSM amp modeling, stuff like that. the se-70's distortions
are non-modeled analog (but they're not guitar amps
either, so which is better depends on what you are doing with it).
i've also heard that for the basic effects, the difference between
the se-70 and the vf-1 is similar to the difference between
the se-50 and the se-70...so the vf1 is probbaly a better choice
for everything except the vocoder....and i'm sure it's still pretty
good....

none of these things are designed for vocals (the ones mentioned)
try a digitech vocalist, or..whats that other one...boss VoFX? cant remember.
I think that you might be better off using something thats designed for the voice..but i dont know shit really so whats it matter?
oh..plus this thread is old as shit. nevermind

like the sound of anything digitech i've ever gotten near
(except for the rds-1900 i used to have, that was OK).
there is a vocal effect chain on the SE70, and
probably the VF1. i don't know what "designed for
voice" would mean, the "voice FX" or voice transformer
stuff usually means either "i have a vocoder! make
robot voices with me!" or that it has a mic preamp
onboard and you can plug your mic right into it...
at least, from what i've seen...even vocoders aren't
really "vocal" effects, although that's how they are usually
used...vocode a drum loop against a pad for instance....
(pad carrier, drum loop modulator)...lots of fun...
