fuck a book. government-enabled farmer's boy-type individual want to read? get some hunter thompson books. and read Filth, if you can... them have a midi book. fascist control of midi is good. you think keyboards are kind of awkward. keyboards say nasty things about the way i & i slap them when stuffed mooses sleep. ignore warnings of impending doom; people have been warning of impending doom since before they had the phrase. actually if you're interested in chords, go
look on some of the guitar-oriented sites...
i found a bunch of stuff on harmony-central
in the guitar area, about some stuff i'd seen
but didn't know for sure what it was (sus chords
in particular). they have all the basics. you'll
need to try them out yourselves to really see
what they do but it can get you started....

btw i think that's just an A#/Bb major scale...
whole note = 2 semitones half note = 1 semitone
major scale = w w h w w w h (starting from the base
of the scale)
minor scale = w h w w w w h

so that scale above starts on A#....

Actually, the way that scale is written it's an Eb Lydian missing the F note, that is, the Bb major scale played from Eb to Eb (prefer to call it Eb rather than D# because D is in the scale). And yes, explore harmony central -- there's a theory section with a lot of links. Do they have libraries where you live, rage?

Deodorant factories? Not that I know of. There's a Tums factory and a beer factory and a warplane factory. Go figure...

>>how would you classify new england in that system??

I dunno. How would you? You live there. How close to Baaahston ahhh you? This was all covered it that one thread where that Florida jackoff was threatening you, wasn't it? (Uh-oh, now I've done it). Actually, Boston's the only part of New England I've been to (unless you count Amtrak between Boston and NYC... nice coastline). Almost moved there once, a band I was working with wanted to make it big, so they pulled up roots here and moved to Somerville, MA. They got some good press and toured the east a lot but ended up just as broke in a more expensive part of the country. Oh, well...

you dont have to spend lots - get the standard Royal College of Music theory grade book... it is small (pocket size) & cheap and covers everything you need to know

Yea. I don't have the time to do a search with my job being so consuming right now. There are a lot of good and cheap books on theory. K's suggestion is probably an excellent choice. You need to understand notes, there values on the staff tonally and rythmically. It's very easy. Just takes some getting used to. If you have that basic knowledge then go for a book or internet site on either harmony or counterpoint. Counterpoint is basically about putting 2 or 3 melodies down so that they sound the way you want them to while played at the same time. Harmony is generally counterpoint with 4 voices instead of 2 or 3. There are rules to both, which are definately meant to be broken. But it can be helpful to know the rules because you'll also know the purpose for their existence.

Also, there's gotta be used bookstores in your area where you can pick these things up for a song...pun intended.

Ok here is the scale properly(i hope) what kind of chords etc can i get out of it. i also know a similar chord where the E is D# I learnt this one by copying riffs on from a lot of old platipus tunes.Whats the chord used in the prodigys tune "no good start the dance? i can play it but when i go up and down the scale it just dosen't work! its very similar to the i described above.

Although I reckon you can just do what the hell you like with electronic music, it's hard if not impossible to come up with some nice complicated parts that make you think without knowing all the scales and dat.
If you still can't afford a book, I've got this little chart I made with all the chords, minor chords, diminished, augmented, 7th's etc . . . . .
It's got all the key signatures on it too. In fact, I've got quite a few little reference bits in Word format.
One really nice chord sequence is the one from Paupa New Guinea. It goes like this -:
------------------------
Fmin (F Ab C)
Fmin
Ab (Ab C Eb)
Bb (Bb D F)
------------------------......ad infinitum

If you want a copy of the chord reference chart drop me an Email and I'll send it over. Send me any half decent chord patterns you find!

You changed it to an F scale. Here's your basic chords, no extensions (7, 9, 11, 13, etc.)

Yeah i kind of figured them out already with a few misplaced notes here and there,Here is a chord i'm curenntly using in one of my tracks. Is this right its just for the string section i have riffs and basslines to to go with it.Each chord plays for 4 bars in a 8 bar loop with resonence and cut off to give it a twirling effect...

1st 4 bars with d2 being pressed gently every bar at each 1/4...........

the same just transposed down with c2 being pressed at each 1/4.I would try to display the riff but i think its its rather good so i'll be holding on to it for a while.I think these chords sound ok but the bass is finding it hard to harmonise(it goes in D for 4 bars and C for 4 in a kind of acid style with the odd offset here and there)

"Here are the rules, there are no rules."

Remember that a lot of dance music defies the rules, So it's ok to do things like play a minor chord over a major scale etc... that also applies to most types of music. The more rules defied the more interesting the music imho.
