some advice on making strings sound better.
1) Slow attack, slow release. Poor string samples found
on most synths sound best if the initial volume starts
low and gets louder as the note is played out, which is
called attack. After the note stops playing, the sound
should fade out slowly as well. The amount of attack
and release you use will determine how 'washy' and
'warm' the strings sound. Basically, the sound of each
note overlaps the next.
2) Add reverb. But not too much.
3) Layer your strings. Repeat notes over a few
octaves, at different velocities (individual note
volumes) to creat full sounding, textured strings.
4) Assuming you've done the above, now try taking your
highest string notes, and making them do something
different in relation to the lowest string notes -
preferably, the opposite direction. If the bass notes
go down (in relation to the previous note), the high
notes should go up. If my progession was C-G-D#-A# my
highest strings could play D#-C-A
