u can get better outboard fx, the fx don't sound that fantastik but sertanly give your production a edge, I can't imaging my mpc without the fx card, and I'd sertanly recomend it if u only have a mpc but if u have inputs on your mixer and a rack full of gear u can pick up a external fx unit w midi that will sound better at a similar price.

I wish!! that's what i thought when I bought the mpcxl (i.e. assign the fader to anything: cc. mixer fx..ectect) but NOT thanks to Akai's great invatif vission... the distotion is actally quite good thanks to the lo quality of the fx so u get a very raw but not overly agressif distrtion, u can record the fx send into the seq but u have to use the data weel wich isn't fast enugh to do quick feedback spins ect.. but I always go into step edit and edit the data .. works great how about throwing some reverb up with a drumrool..and ofcorse it goes whithout saying: the MPC handels all data flawlessly!... I'd defenatly look one up s/h well worth it.
