Just purchased a Terratec DMX6fire 24/96 and I am more than impressed with the performance so far, but I am having a problem using it with Cubase VST5, my PC is a 1gig P3 with 384mb ram, 26gig HDD running win98se. I am trying to record via the mic input into cubase but it is having none of it, it works fine in Wavelab and Soundforge but cubase records nothing, I am using the correct (asio)driver and have set the terratec control panel correctly, I have tried using the directx and multimedia drivers and they work but there is a delay, making it totally unsuitable for recording vocals to a backing track whilst monitioring. Does anyone have any ideas as this is doing me head in! Thanks in advance.

Solved it! It was the VST inputs setup, I didn't have Mic enabled or selected for the track. D'oh!

If you hate newbies look away now...

For the last 8 years I've been doing sample based music with Cubase 3.1, an old P333 and an Akai S2000. I now want to start experimenting with VST but need a decent soundcard.

I've been looking at the Terratec DMX 6Fire as a medium spec card. Any thoughts?

Also in the future I will be wanting to record directly from a mic so will I need to upgrade my PC as I've heard a slow(er) machine will find it hard to keep up.

I'm assuming this new set-up will also make my Akai redundant?

Thanks,
RM
