Original Message 1/3 13-Mar-03 @ 06:40 PM - MIDI + Sequencers ??????
1. I don`t know how to record the sounds I`ve created on the Korg X5 to the sequencer. (I know MIDI doesn`t send sounds, just instructions but there must be a way, I think Sysex comes into play here).
2. When I try and use sounds on the computer, there is a huge delay between playing the notes on the Korg X5 and hearing the sound via my PC.
Oh, by the way, any suggestions to what software (sequencers e.t.c) is best suited for creating dance/trance music would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Lee

OK, so to record sounds from your Korg you need to hook up its audio outputs to the inputs of your soundcard and use software to do the actual recording (cubase, logic, sonar etc etc. Sysex dosen't really come into play here as it controls the synth's parameters.
The delay between hitting a key on your X5 and hearing the sound from a softsynth is caused by audio latency.. we all suffer from this and some cards are better than others, for example my latency setting is about 8ms. Just about ok for realtime playing.
What soundcard do you have?
As for softwate, its really a case of take your pick they will all do what you want
I use cubase, others use Sonar, Logic etc
Haven't had much experience with Orion and the like but I have been hearing good thing about them.
Hope this helps

so you need a fast asio2/wdm soundcard - there is many well known and quality budget brands/models from midiman, hoontech, terretec, marian etc -
sequencer?... well it can be any of the ones available... hard to say which is best for you, you have to try the demo's I guess. But some of the best known are:
fruity-loops - orion - reason - cubase vst & SX (inc the cheaper budget versions) - Logic in various version including the cheap 'Silver' version - Cakewalk Sonar which is very good value and is now ASIO compatible. - The new project5 which looks interesting, but isnt released yet (out soon)
