When I boot up my computer, I get a checksum error. What does this mean, and how do I fix it? Thanks.

did you change anything hardware-wise... or is it a newly built PC?

this can sometimes be caused by a dying CMOS battery (small watch size battery on the motherboard used to save date time and bios settings when the pc is powered down) give me some more details and I am pretty sure I can help !

also after flashing the bios, dead or dying video card, loose pci card, bad or incorrectly seated memory can cause a checksum error. but the most common cause is a dead cmos battery

It's a relatively new computer that I bought about 6 or 8 months ago. No new hardware added around the time it started happening. It only happens when I boot up - won't save the date/time thing. Otherwise the pc is running fine.

It's an MIS mobo, Athlon XP2000, running WinXP pro.

if it wont save the date/time, then Id be willing to bet a little $ that the battery is bad

kinda odd for a newish motherboard innit?
