Original Message 1/13 31-Aug-03 @ 12:40 AM - True Tape
Read the manual, pretty easy and simple sounding, turn it on.... record stuff.
All I get is a WAV file of white noise, both to listen to and on the screen.
Had the problem a while back with my SW1000XG and blamed it on the card. Try it for the first time tongight on my sta audio card and get the same problem.
I expect (and hope) its something really simple and stupid I'm missing out. But what that is I dont know.
I havn't even heard what difference it makes to a recording so not sure how important it is.... but I really want to have a listen for myself.
Can anyone help please ?

just kidding....
it sounds like true-tape is a dithering process to knock the digital-ness out of the mix.
good luck. i'm barely getting 5.0 down....myself.

Do I have to 'record' in 32-bit ?
I assumed it was talking about the 32-bit files SX uses internally.
Please clarify influx.
Cheers.

in all honesty, a better place for a question like this would be cubase.net (or the manual, which does cover this I believe)
anyway..not sure why its like that, but thats the case

"Note:
*TrueTape produces 32 bit float files. The hard disk and processor speed considerations of the regular 32 bit format apply here as well.
*Unlike the regular 32 bit float record format, you can use the TrueTape mode even if your audio hardware only supports 16 bit resolution. This is because the TrueTape feature converts the signal to 32 bit float format, and adds audio information in the floating point domain."
Seems like you can record at even 16 bits, never mind 32, to use TrueTape. It seems to imply that the processed output of the input (whatever resolution it may be) is 32 bit float, which makes sense.

seriously..go read the cubase forums. I believe it has been well documented that unless youre files are at 32bit, it wont work?
or..maybe the project just needs to be set to 32?
dunno..there is a load of threads at cubase.net about truetape

Then again if I actually wanted to manage to play a couple of tracks without maxing out on CPU & HDD I'll need to dither them down to 16-bit.
I can't believe thats the solutions, sounds a but convoluted to me.
Yes Darkstate you know I have the manual
Which SOS was it in ? Been buying them but didnt spot that......
Cheers,
