i'm using cubase 5.0 on my mac g4 1.25 ghz. w/ os9.2.2....less ram-hungry than osX.
i'm trying to use softsynths / samplers and rebirth. maybe even reason.
how much ram should i allocate to my cubase program? right now i have 360 mb.allocated.
i have 1.25 gb ram total.
is there such a thing as allocating too much ram to a program even if it's available?
should i buy more?

dunno bout cubase but, yeah, there is a thing with Protools where you can actually allocate too much RAM- I think digidesign reccomends something like 80MB to the prog and 80 to DAE but i have 150 to PT and 120 to DAE, many users have found that adding more makes no diff or actually harms/causes errors.

Agin, maybe cubase would act completely different, and bearing in mind this is PT 5.2 on G4 400 (os9.2) not the newer 6 version so the ideals may have moved up but id say for best results take steinbergs reccomendation and add 40-50% or so.

i.e if the say allocate 300 then try 400-450 mebbe?

let me know how you go with that one

5.0 was working great with milan's suggested 512mb......until i tried to get the uc 33e to record data into cubase......no go. so i reloaded drivers etc...and now none of my midi programs or even reason or ableton live work on the new mac.

thank god i have reason on the old one.

now is THAT a wonderful device or what?

and yeah...i'm never selling the old g3.
