I am very much into the music scene, and I was
wondering how I could get into it without
spending much money. I have a computer, but it
isn't the biggest. Are there any specifications
that would help getting a setup easier? Also, my
friend told me that the GLI 2000 is a good buy for
a beginner. Is this true? If so, what is it
and what can it do (basics)?

you don't need a very fast computer for midi; a middle-to-
high end 486 with 8mb and windows 3.1 or + will suffice,
unless you want to multitask. if you use mac, you could
even use a mac se, classic, or lcII; you just need a few
external components
i just started too. i've got the simplest set-up: my
computer and a controller. i bought a used roland a-33.
it's huge and it's awesome. i have it hooked up to my
midi/joystick port. i'm using my sound card's mpu401
for my sound generator. it's wavetable, but it still
sounds like crap. i just found a used scc-1 card, and i'm
buying it. the roland scc-1 (sound canvas) was discontinued,
but it still lives on as the sc-55 module (an external version).
that will be my sound generator so i won't have to listen
to the crap comming out of my sound card. the scc-1/sc-55
is not the best, but it's great for starters.

i am starting out as well. have come across a superb editing
program for your pc "Cool-Edit" and "Cool edit Pro"get them
from www.tucows.com in the audio applications section.
have not figured out all their uses yet but they look good.
But you can not save any work done in cool edit pro unless
you want to shell out $400..........
