Is there any reason to get a Roland R8 drum machine if you already have a R8M drum module. Does anybody use the preprogramed beats on a drum machine or would that be considered amateur because you really didn't create the beat as you would if you had the R8M which only has drum hit samples, no preprogramed beats. I am personally sort of anti-drum loop samples just because I like knowing that I created everything but I do hear alot of cool beats that I assume have been sampled. What is the general feeling about what is legitimate. Does anybody know of any videos for sale dealing with creating dance beats using samples, drum machines, drum modules and whatever means necessary. Please excuse my run-on bad English. But hopefully somebody will understand what I am getting at.

Now before someone (I wont say who) advises you to download Hammerhead, I'd just like to say that you should be able to get some alright stuff happening with the R8m and a sequencer. Although it would be almost impossible to get a sound from the r8m that sounds like a live drum loop, I'm sure you'd be able to get some fat grooves out of it nonetheless. Just mess about with the tuning, decay, and nuances while you've got a beat playing and before long you should come up with a decent sound providing the drum pattern kicks.

How do you get that dirty drum sound that you hear on
all the house-albums?
It sounds kinda like a messed up 909 (especially the hats).
I've heard that a EMU SP-12 or a AKAI MPC-60 messes up
the beats pretty bad because of their 12-bit sampling.
These, however ,especially the SP-12, costs a fortune.
Can I achive that dirty sound with some pc-program, or
some ol' AKAI sampler, or something.
I've tried to make my own jungle loops from scratch, but
this sounds really awful!
Please help me out.

An old S900 Akai will give you THAT sound. You'll just need to adjust the envelopes a bit to get the drums sounding real tight, and so you don't hear the 12bit noise as the sample decays. 808 kicks sound awesome from an S900.

I don't think that 12-bits samplers will give a dirty
house sound. I think some of em' do.
