Is twiddly bits the type of thing that is cool to use. Can you make music that is proffesional. And people won't listen to it and say, oh that's those twiddly bits. Have they been overused? I really don't know much about drum sequencing. I am a musician but have never played drums. I want to start creating dance music with my sequencer and R8M module that I just purchased, but I really don't think I can become the excellent drummer that I think you need to be to produce great dance music. Are there any great electronic artists that use things such as twiddly bits? Since the R8M module is not General Midi will Twiddly Bits work with it?

Why would you need to be a great drummer to produce a great dance track ??....all you need is a sense on rhythm and a logic way of thinking, besides with a sequencing package these days you can create a pretty shite beat, quantize it, and it still comes out half good.......is this what you mean?

well, all sorts of people from Zappa to Stevie Vai have said.....learn to play drums...... that can be kit, or hand drum........all dance music is made from a finite selection of cross rythms......there are only so many permeatations available........
drumming will do more to increase your knowledge of different timing signatures and cross-rythms than anything else.....from latin & balaeric beats to african, middle-eastern etc etc.....

I wish I knew what cross rythyms meant.

I've used Newtronic midi files with some acceptable
results. The great thing about these files is you can
alter them considerably to suit your needs. I don't know
if they are 'cool' to use but if they ain't so what?? If
you use them and they sound good then whose to say
otherwise?

Hi there ,

I also use the NEWTRONIC midi file producer series and I am
VERY pleased with their stuff ( especially with their drum programming on DRUMnBASS and their NATION series ).
I believe TB is more for top 40 minded pop/rock users , while
the newtronic stuff delivers excellent material for progressive dance producers.

Regards

Tim
