it's not there SONIC FOUNDRY SOUNDFORGE

SONIC FOUNDRY SOUNDFORGE

Well I can't tell you too much about SoundForge, cos truthfuly, I mostly use it for it's timestretch function which is fantastic, & for it's other processing, where I export audio into the programme, from any audio/midi programme that doesn't support the processing I need......I'm not familiar with it's sample to midi trigger & smpte cue list functions.

Basically, SoundForge is a high-end sample editor and production tool, which apparently has won loads of awards. As I said I just use it for the Timestretch & stuff....... so this is the thing really; if you can get for the same money as Soundforge, a programme that also is a cool digital multitrack, or an integrated midi & H/Disk audio programme, then why bother with Forge ??

Well......apart from bein a cool dedicated sample editor, Soundforge has extra great feature like a comprehensive Delay & Time based FX section and even a Reverb section, which sounds very good.....All the FX parameters are previewable, and actually re-adjust themselves, as you adjust them in real time.....There is also, a wicked Eq section, Flange, Phasing, distortion.... even a whah-whah !!.....Reverb parameters include Diffusion, Pre-delay times & offset, filter shelving etc....All in all, the FX themselves are enough to justify the price, when compared to the price of some of the plug-ins on the market.....For example, just one pluggin for Cubase/wavelab costs the same price as this whole programme !!!.....So with Soundforge, you get far far more ready-to-go audio processing than with ANY of the other programmes.

Soundforge is a top end 32 bit sample editor/compiler/player, and as such if you want easy fully comprehensive editing, with lots of feature for looping and the addition of great Timestrech and extras like delay, reverb and other time based FX It's great.....But you could also think of it as a software based Akai S3000 or something, because it also has the ability to trigger long audio segments from midi note numbers, or to a SMPTE cue list....Forge is apparently used alot in the US for video production etc..and I would imagine, it's perfect for that job...But as a dance music software ?....Well.......

What I,m tryin to say is........Soundforge , is quite expensive when purchased brand new....so unless you're ONLY after a quality dedicated sample editor/production tool, then if you can get it cheap, get it...... as a luxury extra to your midi & H/D software........You just have to decide ; If you can get a programme for midi/H/D recording, such as Cubase or Cakewalk for the same price as Soundforge....is it worth it ?

However......If you do everything with a PC sampler card, or dedicated sampler and are commited to a sampler based setup, then it's a cool very very cool programme, giving you every possible sample edit feature you need, as well as stacks of FX & processing, & the ability to build MTC or SMPTE cue lists for your longer audio parts such as main vocal track etc, or even to trigger samples from note numbers...there's even a software keyboard included to help with this.

Forge supports sample formats, like Sound Designer and Sound Tools as well as Amiga, Midi Sample Dump, Mac Resource and AIFF etc......Why don't you just download the demo....cos this is a wickedly wicked software I promise you !!

Tell you what.........Rather than reading this waffle, why not go to the SONIC FOUNDRY SITE and download a free demo version.......It's the full works, except you can't save, so you can try it with some WAV's you already have on your PC.....It's a very cool software, believe me !!

Hey Dude, I got my copy of SoundForge included with Macromedia Director Studio - for about £800.00 you get the

best Multimedia Authoring package, a tool called Xres which is similar to Photoshop and Extreme3D which is a 3D

modeller plus SoundForge! Great!!! Janek

soundforge definitely has a lot going for it especially if you use it in conjunction with other progs. Of course, you hav

to record your results from your soundcard output & input them to a prog with a functioning save but, that's a

smaller price to pay than the full blown version! Auto regioning functions are especially cool as are the multi-tap

delays

I like it... I am totally into making Techno sounds with it and would like some info or maybe some neat ideas. Like

overlapping sounds... I have a sampler MS-1 haven't got it hooked up with Midi yet to my pc. But I am still trying

to understand MIDI itself. I am saving to get an Alesis seq. Since I would think I have to use that to sequence the

wave file on the soundforge program and send it to the seq. through MIDI? correct? other than that its fantastic.

Don`t forget you can also sync audio to video or give it a little stretch to fit the (in my case) size of the cut scene/ intro. I been using SF for about a year now and as I don`t have pro-tools or a Mac I create all my SFX with SF, I even make up percussion and sent it via midi to my akai (after a long cup of tea). So what i`am trying to say is that if you carn`t afford a high end Mac and pro-tools to go with it then SF is the way to go. I LUV IT!!!!!

Soundforge 4.0 is great, i love to experiment whith it, but can anyone tell me where to pick up secondhand or new Soundforge 3.0 and the Soundforge noise-reduction plugin. This would be fantastic

I just received soundforge 4.5 today, along with envent's LAYLA. I also Purchased the DSP-FX and

the SFX-1 and CD-Architech from sonic foundry. Traditionally, I'm an ADAT man. I also syncned a Roland

VS-880 V-Expanded to my adat's for additional tracks and editing features. I'm very apprehensive about using computers to do my work, but at the same time time I'm very excited about the possibilities. I hope that it will possess all the magic that the manufacture promises.

I think this is a very poor product. It has one or two good functions, but it doesn't really do what I need it to. It's also very much so a resource hog, and that makes it hard to work with. Good site tho.

Why don't you put a list of cracks on your page too, it would make it much easier for scrounging software pirates like myself. In the last week I have downloaded a full version of Rebirth and Wavelab - HaFuckingHa.

I'm having problems getting hold of Cubase past version 3.0 though.....

Sure, I suppose within another week I'll have got that too. Good luck to all you mugs out there paying over the odds to counteract people who rip Steinberg etc off.

Bye,from

Someone who knows nothing about cracking/hacking but can still find it for free.
