I guess I should to a websearch, but I'm lazy.

so I bought a cheapy geforce 4 440 mx on
ebay but they've accidentally sent me a ti 4200
and it's got this dvi output thing on it. Is that for
those swanky hdtv things or am I just being
stupid again?

it's for digital monitors (aka flat screen LCDs... i don't know if there are any CRT digital monitors). My ATI has the same thing, but it came with a doohicky to convert it to analog. You, i guess, have to buy this option.

It's got a normal vga ouput and an s-video out
as well so I should be ok.

My ATI Radeon 7500 is set up similarly. One VGA, one S-video, and one DVI.
